Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, ACTH (4–7), combined with the stabilising tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro. Its amino-acid sequence is Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro.
Semax has been investigated in laboratory and animal research involving neurological signalling, neurotrophic gene expression, cellular stress responses and cerebral-ischaemia models. The available evidence remains limited, and its mechanisms and potential applications continue to be studied.
